Located on the Florida Panhandle, just west of Destin, is a town with water as blue as the sky, white sandy beaches, and a historic soul. Downtown streets are filled with charming shops and local eats. I wasn't expecting to fall in love with it, but here I am. Let me walk you through a visit to Pensacola, FL. You may fall in love with it, too!

I am a traveler who tries to be outside when the sun comes out, especially when visiting the beach. Therefore, my first recommendation when visiting Pensacola is to spend time somewhere on the city's beautiful fifty-mile coastline. Spending a day on the beach, then grabbing a shower and dinner, is the perfect way to spend a day in this beautiful Gulf Coast town.

But what if you're staying for a few days? Will there still be enough to keep you entertained? It's winter, and lounging on a chilly beach probably isn't on your list. No worries—Pensacola has plenty of charming spots and engaging activities to make your visit memorable.
Historical Spots
In 1559, the Spanish settlers founded the town of Pensacola, making it America's first settlement. A hurricane ruined the settlers' supplies and food, which resulted in their return to Mexico. This was just the beginning for Pensacola. The city now has the nickname "The City of Five Flags," representing the five governments that have claimed it over time: Spain, France, Britain, the Confederate States, and now the United States of America.
With its rich history, Pensacola is full of museums and historic sites worth checking out. You can explore old forts from past wars, stop by the Pensacola Museum of History, or visit the Voices of Pensacola Multicultural Center. If you love art, the Pensacola Museum of Art has you covered. And since the city is a significant hub for naval aviation, you don't want to miss the National Naval Aviation Museum.

Dining
From fresh Gulf seafood to local cafes, Pensacola’s food scene has something for everyone. Grab a po’boy or shrimp basket by the water at Paradise Bar and Grill, sip on coffee downtown at The Bodacious Bookstore & Café, or treat yourself to a sweet treat at Bubba's Sweet Spot! Whether you are in the mood for something simple or want to get dressed up for date night, Pensacola truly has it all. Check out a directory of local eats here.

Shopping
Downtown Pensacola offers a variety of boutiques, antique stores, and other local shops. If you're in town on a Saturday, don't miss Palafox Market, where you will find—local vendors, fresh flowers, art, and all the small-town charm you could want. If you're looking for a selection of chain retail stores, you do not want to miss a day of shopping at the Cordova Mall!
Where To Stay
Are you convinced yet to check out this Gulf Coast town? If so, I will provide you with some great spots to stay! Whether you’re into bed-and-breakfasts, hotels, or vacation rentals, Pensacola has a place to suit you. When we visited, we stayed in an Airbnb in town, opting for a longer drive to the beaches. They have plenty of options that you can check out here.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bag, hit the road, and explore the wonderful city of Pensacola, FL, for yourself!
