This week on Gulf Coast Getaway, we are heading back down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, featuring the beautiful town of Long Beach, MS. The southern town, with a population of descendants of original settlers, offers adventures you will never forget! If you're looking for a village with the vibes of a larger city, Long Beach may not be the spot for you. However, it does have industrial, commercial, and retail businesses. The family-friendly town offers one of Mississippi's best public school districts—the Long Beach School District. The city also is home to the University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Park campus and many other community colleges.

Long Beach offers unique opportunities for those who live in the community and surrounding areas. The University of Southern Mississippi is located in the area, making higher education more accessible to community members. The campus is on the beachfront and has many teaching and research sites along the Gulf Coast.
When visiting campus, you don't want to miss stopping by the Friendship Oak Tree, a 500-year-old live tree that has survived many natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina. This beautiful tree is essential to the University and the local community since it has been there through its change and transformation.
So you're visiting? What should you do? Keep reading to gain insider access to all the must-stop spots in Long Beach, MS.

First things first—let's talk food. Long Beach may be small, but the restaurant scene is huge! One spot you won't want to miss is Harbor View Café. This restaurant serves fresh seafood, Southern staples, and daily specials right off the water. Whether you're in the mood for shrimp and grits or a classic fried oyster po'boy, Harbor View can cure your cravings!

Long Beach is made for slow days. Stroll along the Long Beach Harbor, where you'll spot fishermen, pelicans, and maybe even a dolphin. A public beach right next to the harbor offers a clean, quiet, and perfect family beach day or sunset picnic.
Rent a bike and cruise down US-90. Or, spend the afternoon at War Memorial Park, a peaceful space with walking paths, a splash pad, and picnic tables under the oak trees.
Long Beach has a few hidden gems if you love a good local find. Stop by Bankhouse Coffee, a coffee shop and roastery inside a historic bank building. The coffee is excellent, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming—perfect for a caffeine boost before hitting the beach.
For gifts or souvenirs, check out The Robin's Nest in the Pass, just a quick drive to Pass Christian. It has local art, handmade candles, coastal decor, and other Gulf Coast treasures.
Whether visiting for the weekend or just passing through, Long Beach has a charm you won’t forget. It’s peaceful, historic, and full of heart—just the way the Mississippi Gulf Coast should be. From beachfront views to community roots, it’s a town that invites you to slow down and stay awhile.
